Conus (Conasprella)  hyshugari (Petuch, 1994)

Description (2): Shell of average size for subgenus, with stocky, broad body whorl and very high, protracted, scalariform spire; shoulder sharply-angled, edged with large, rounded carina; body whorl smooth and polished, with 10-12 deeply-impressed spiral sulci around anterior one-half; aperture narrow, widening toward anterior.

Holotype:UF66438, Length 28 mm.

Type Locality: Bermont Fauna, from North New River Canal dredging, 20 miles south of South Bay, Palm Beach County.

Remarks: Conus hyshugari is most similar to the much older, strati-graphically-lower C. jaclynae n. sp. (Plate 94, Figure H) from the Pinecrest Beds (Kissimmee) Fauna, but differs in being a wider, less elongated shell with a broader shoulder and thicker, much more rounded shoulder carina. Some specimens of C. hyshugari may have strong pustules on the body whorl.

Etymology: Named for Hyman Shugar, M.D. of Weston, Fort Lauderdale, Florida.
